Dr. Gian Paolo Tassi![]() Dr. Gian Paolo Tassi is a neurosurgery specialist with over 35 years of experience, internationally recognized for the minimally invasive treatment of herniated and bulging discs using the PLDD technique (Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression). He was officially appointed by Prof. Daniel S. J. Choy – the inventor of PLDD and Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Columbia University in New York – as Director of the European partner of the Spine Laser Center of New York. Dr. Tassi is also the only Italian specialist authorized by Prof. Choy to perform PLDD according to the original method developed by its inventor. His expertise is built on an outstanding training path: he completed three dedicated training programs in New York, directly at the center founded by Prof. Choy, refining a technique that requires extensive training and highly specialized hands-on skill. In December 2002, he was the first neurosurgeon to introduce PLDD in Italy and the second in Europe, after Dr. Johannes Hellinger (Munich). Today, Dr. Tassi is regarded as one of the world’s most experienced PLDD specialists, with over 4,500 treatments performed on patients from across Italy and abroad, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland, as well as the United States, Morocco, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Alongside his clinical work, he has a strong scientific record with around 100 publications and also plays an important teaching role: over the years he has supported orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons from several countries as a mentor and reference point for learning the technique. If you are looking for a minimally invasive approach grounded in experience, the original method and well-established results, Dr. Gian Paolo Tassi is an outstanding choice.
